Richard J. Barrie May 29th, 2017

Richard J. Barrie, 79, son of Robert and Ila Barrie, previously deceased, passed peacefully on May 29th, 2017 surrounded by his family at Deaconess Hospital where he was being treated for stroke complications. He was a 43 year resident of Spokane and had spent his early years in Othello, Washington where he graduated from high school. He then served in the US Army before attending the University of Washington graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Upon his graduation he returned to Othello where he was well known for his many diversified interests including music, playing a wicked set of drums; railroading, spending some time at the Milwaukee Railroad roundhouse; serving as a fire lookout one summer atop a stand of forest high above Priest Lake, Idaho; working as an announcer for any manner of local sports providing color commentary for the local radio station, KRSC; then moving to Spokane with his family where he worked for 19 years as Manager of Accounting for Continental Baking Co.

Richard is lovingly remembered by him immediate family; son Ed Barrie, daughter-in- law Keri and granddaughters Samantha, Savannah and Sydney of Liberty Lake; son Joe Barrie and granddaughters Meagan and Ashley of Gulfport, MS; son Brian Barrie, granddaughters Brianna and Britnee and grandson, Jaden of Othello and former wife, Joyce Fielding of Spokane. He will always be remembered as the eldest of his siblings including sisters Cheryl Turner and family of Redmond, WA; Wendy Fay and family of Allentown, PA; Gretchen Capps and family of Spokane; brothers Delbert (previously deceased); Rod Barrie and family of Martinez, GA; Allan Barrie and wife of Lake Jean, GA and Gil Barrie and family of Dayton, OH as well as many other extended family members and friends who share in the loss of this truly amazing fellow who packed more into a lifetime than one can imagine. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 29th @ 1 p.m. @ Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens, S. 14th Ave. and Cemetery St., Othello, WA with reception to follow at the Othello Senior Center, 755 N. 7th Ave.
