Basin roundup: Spuds eliminated from state tournament
SPOKANE — Central Washington’s state tournament run ended at the hands of a familiar foe.
In the sixth meeting of the year, Central Washington was eliminated from the Legion AAA State Tournament by the Pepsi-Pak 17-1.
Yakima Valley, loaded with players from 2A state champion Ellensburg, Selah and West Valley, raced to a 6-1 lead after three innings. The Pepsi-Pak pulled away in the fourth inning after scoring seven runs.
Kameron Huberdeau singled and scored on an error in the third inning for the Spuds’ lone run. Cody Goodwin was 2-for-2.
Spencer Bailey led Yakima Valley at the plate with three hits and three RBI; Cort Dietrich also drove in three runs.
Justin Vandebrake and Xander Orejudos had two RBI each.
Kelso 12, River Dogs 2
KELSO — The River Dogs dropped to 0-3 in the 13- 15-year-old Babe Ruth Regional Tournament, losing to Kelso 12-2.
Kelso scored six runs in the fist inning and led 9-1 after three innings. The hosts added two runs in the sixth inning to enact the 10-run rule.
Hunter Gibson and George Ramirez had one RBI each. Ramirez hit a RBI single in the second inning and Jaxon Rocha scored when Gibson hit into a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning.
The River Dogs play their final game of pool play on Friday.
Calgary AA 19, Moses Lake 18
CALGARY, Alberta — Calgary AA scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and stunned Moses Lake 19-18 at the 14-year-old Babe Ruth Regional Tournament.
Moses Lake led 12-7 after five innings, however, Calgary stormed back with 12 runs over the final two.
Moses Lake dropped to 0-3 at the regional tournament.
Julian Egia homered and had four RBI; Kamden Kuykendall added three runs scored and three RBI. Everett Ashley hit a triple and had two RBI.
