Fire knocked down near North Elementary School

MOSES LAKE — Firefighters made quick work of a grass fire near a Moses Lake elementary school Thursday.
Firefighters with Grant County Fire District No. 5 responded to combat the fire on West Craig Street, near North Elementary School, about 1:05 p.m. All people inside of the school were evacuated as a precaution because the fire was near the school.
Crews responded to the scene quickly and were able to extinguish the blaze. A Grant County PUD pole went up in flames, but no structures were destroyed. Officials estimated the size of the fire at about .25 acres. There were no reported injuries and the school was reopened.
