Moses Lake wrestling finishes Redneck Camp undefeated, wins team title
PASCO — Moses Lake finished the three-day Pasco Redneck Camp with a perfect record and won the team championship.
It was the first time the Chiefs had finished first since 2014.
“It’s a tough camp to win, I’ll be honest with you,” head coach Jaime Garza said.
Moses Lake recorded blowout victories against White Salmon (56-6), Curtis (51-6) and Ellensburg (47-9) before a tough test against Mead.
The Panthers, coming off third place at Mat Classic XXIX, pulled ahead before Moses Lake rallied in the middle and heavyweights to win 42-30.
“They kind of hit us in the face and we punched back and got after it,” Garza said.
Moses Lake cruised pasted Chiawana 43-9 to keep its record unblemished.
Hunter Cruz, a 2017 state champion, finished his three days 25-0.
Garza was happy with how even in losses the Chiefs rarely conceded pin points. He was also excited with how his team bonded at the camp.
“I think that was the highlight,” Garza said.
