Several fires near Soap Lake stomped out safely

SOAP LAKE — Firefighters battled several brush fires near Soap Lake on Monday.

Firefighters with Grant County Fire District No. 7 responded to reports of several different wildfires on Sheep Canyon Road and near Road B Northwest and Road 20 Northwest, about two miles west of Soap Lake. A Level 2 evacuation notice was issued by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office about 12:20 p.m. for Road B Northwest from Road 19 north to Road 21 and Sheep Canyon Road west from Road B Northwest. Level 2 notices indicate there is a significant risk to an area and the fire is moving closer.

Firefighters were able to get the upper hand on the fires and the evacuation notice was canceled about 1:30 p.m. There were no reported injuries or structures destroyed and the fires are under investigation. An estimate on the acreage burned by the fires was not available on Monday.
