Ecret quits ML council

MOSES LAKE — Longtime Moses Lake city councilmember and former mayor Bill Ecret resigned from the city council after he moved out of the city.

City Manager John Williams explained Ecret submitted a resignation letter explaining his decision. Williams said Ecret’s resignation was official on Monday and city staff is currently discussing and researching options on what to do about appointing a successor to Ecret’s seat. The options will be discussed during Tuesday night’s council meeting.

“We have his resignation and therefore staff is preparing the options to present to them (the council) Tuesday evening,” Williams told the Columbia Basin Herald.

Ecret was serving in Position No. 1 on the city council and his term was set to expire on Dec. 31. Despite serving in Position No. 1, Ecret filed to run for Position No. 4, which is a position currently held by Mayor Todd Voth, in the August primary. Voth had initially filed to run for Position No. 4, but later withdrew and filed to run against candidates Mike Riggs and Dean Hankins for Position No. 1. May 22 was the last day for candidates to withdraw from the race.
