Prep roundup: Moses Lake edged by Sunnyside in final dual
SUNNYSIDE — Moses Lake gave up crucial bonus points and lost its Columbia Basin Big Nine finale at Sunnyside 31-23.
“Sunnyside wrestling well,” head coach Jaime Garza said. “I’d like to congratulate them on a good win.”
Nick Hara (132) capped his week of dual wrestling with a second straight technical fall. Hunter Cruz (160) earned a decision against state participant JJ Rodriguez.
Chiefs excelled in the heavier weights, picking up four straight wins from 182 to 285 pounds. Bailey Sanchez (182), Payton Castro (220) and Chandler Fluaitt (285) won by decision. Daiman Vasquez (195) pinned Steven Estrada.
Ephrata 66, Grandview 15
OTHELLO — Ephrata won seven matches and picked up four forfeits in a 66-15 win against Grandview.
Grandview led 15-12 before Ephrata scored 54 unanswered points.
Will Anderson (145), Cole Spencer (170) and Mac Laird (195) pinned their opponents in the first round.
Toppenish 59, Quincy 6
QUINCY — Quincy ran into top-ranked Toppenish and lost 59-6.
The Jacks’ Raul Barajas (126) and Victor Tafoya (170) earned the two wins. Barajas edged John Isaac 9-5 and Tafoya beat Keyano Zamarripa 6-3.
Boys basketball
Entiat 48, Moses Lake Christian 28
ENTIAT — Ben Cabellero scored over half of Moses Lake Christian’s points in a 48-28 loss at Entiat.
Cabellero totaled 16 points followed by Walter Meise and Caedmon Waldrop who added six each.
Soap Lake 66, Waterville-Mansfield 31
WATERVILLE — Soap Lake improved to 7-5 in league play with a win at Waterville-Mansfield 66-31.
Brayden Winters and Jackson Wilks had 12 and 13 points, respectively.
The Eagles led 18-4 after one quarter.
Soap Lake is in fifth place with four games to play.
Girls basketball
Entiat 61, Moses Lake Christian 9
ENTIAT — Moses Lake Christian was outmatched in a 61-9 loss to Entiat.
The Tigers moved to 8-0 in the Central Washington 1B league.
Soap Lake 55, Waterville-Mansfield 47
WATERVILLE — Soap Lake hung on to beat Waterville-Mansfield 54-47.
“This was the game to kind of keep the season alive for us,” head coach Agustin Pedregon said.”
Samantha White had 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Tracie Delgado added 10 points and Nicole Sprague chipped in nine.
The Eagles moved to 3-9 in league play.
