Cupid's Market coming to ML Feb. 11

MOSES LAKE — The Columbia Basin could see temperatures rocket all the way up to 40 degrees next week before the next winter blast rolls in.

With that in mind, the Moses Lake Farmers Market thought folks could use a little sunshine while they await summer. They can’t change the weather, but they can give people something to do.

The Moses Lake Farmers Market is hosting a Cupid's Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Columbia Basin Technical Skills Center at 900 East Yonezawa Blvd.

“We thought people might be looking for a way to get out of the house and do a little shopping. It’s right before Valentine’s Day,” coordinator Karen McLaren said. “We have a vendor that is selling jewelry that they make themselves. It’s pretty special, so somebody might pick something up as a Valentine’s Day gift.”

It will be different than the normal summertime market. There will be 31 vendors on display, offering anything from apples and pears to jams and juice to crafts.

“We have a gentleman coming in from the west side that makes handmade baskets,” McLaren said. “There will also be some vendors that do direct sales. We have someone that makes English toffee. There’s candles, essential oils, bath salts and a variety of things.”

People will have to wait for summer produce and other things grown in the Columbia Basin and nearby, but for the time being the Cupid Market will give the community another event to break the monotony of shoveling snow and throwing down ice melt.
