Taxes are out of control

| January 26, 2017 2:00 AM

First and foremost I want to thank the Columbia Basin Herald for the editorial part of the newspaper. Where taxpayer citizens can express their views. I am a retired person on a fixed income and to my shock I received a Notice of Change of Assessed Value for my property. It went up $16,250 dollars. I have not made any improvements in over five years. When I showed my realtor, she too was shocked, but informed me I had missed the deadline to appeal. Now the Moses Lake School District wants more tax money even though we taxpayers have not yet paid off the last two taxes, the City of Moses Lake wants to raise taxes, and the PUD wants to raise rates too. It is my understanding that most of the city and school administrators don‘t even live inside City limits. Oh well, as a 70-year-old retired person, who lives on a fixed income, I will do what I can do to meet my tax obligations. But as for voting for more taxes I say no.

Thank you, CBH,

Calvin Bergen
