School expansion should be a priority

| January 26, 2017 2:00 AM

Let me be clear: I believe it is both a privilege and an obligation to promote and support education in our community. Our strength, our future, and our prosperity are in our educated children. What better investment can we choose than the priority and support of schools and community education?

Having chosen to live in this wonderful community for the last 63 years and experiencing educational and athletic opportunities at every level, I believe we have chosen responsible and dedicated school board members who work tireless hours for little or no financial gain to hire the finest administrators and teaching staffs available to help our children and community to identify and reach their potential growth opportunities.

I take no pride in being the second-largest high school in our state while considering “year-around” high school and having to schedule classes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to accommodate our class room size and facilities. I see “lost opportunities” for athletic participation as well as civic and leadership growth.

I see at least three years of growth, planning and construction ahead even before a new high school and elementary school could come “online” to alleviate our already overcrowded facilities.

To me the choices are simple: encourage and support our children and community educational opportunities now by voting “yes” Feb. 14, or “kick the can down the road” hoping someone else will take responsibility somewhere in the future. Please choose carefully.
