School bond is important to our community
Everyone knows there is a school bond issue coming before the citizens of the Moses Lake School District. Everyone knows that Moses Lake High School is overcrowded. Everyone knows that building new schools is expensive. Everyone knows that there are people who will always vote for a school bond. Everyone knows that some people will always vote against a school bond. What everyone does not seem to know is that the future of our community, our state, and our country, is dependent on the education of our children. Education is not just what happens at school, but what happens in a community to further learning, discovery, and experimentation.
When a community does not support its children, the whole community suffers. School buildings are a physical manifestation of that support. When our school buildings are in poor condition and overcrowded, businesses do not want to come to Moses Lake. Professionals, like physicians and engineers, look elsewhere. I know this for a fact being involved with physician recruiting at Confluence Health and being a member of City Council. The “domino effect” is quite apparent. One must ask what message, we as voters, are sending to our children when we vote against a school bond. This is not just about the school district, the students, and the teachers; it is about our community and our support for the future of Moses Lake.
In closing I would like to state that I would not be the person that I am today if it were not for the teachers that encouraged me along the way. To all educators I say keep up the good work and you have my vote. I hope that others will join me for the sake of our children and our community.
