Bond best option for community growth
I applaud and support the Moses Lake School District’s school bond proposal for the construction of a second high school, remodeling MLHS, and construction of an 11th-grade school. One of the few downsides of a growing, vibrant community is the need to provide services, like schools, in a timely manner. It can be daunting, but good schools are a key component of a thriving community.
School construction is incredibly regulated and it is not inexpensive, nor is it simple. The rules and regulations are in place to make sure school districts and communities do what is in the best interest of its students and do not compromise their safety for the sake of “economy.” The Moses Lake School District has a great history of managing construction bonds well, with efficient, moderate projects consistently under budget.
The proposed bond addresses the long-term needs of the district in the most cost-effective way, taking into account middle and elementary growth, while knowing the high schools will be adequate past the middle of the century. The least expensive time to build a second high school has already passed. The best remaining option is now.
I’m retired, have no kids in the system, nor any grandkids even in state, but I support this proposal because it builds our community.
