Betty J. McCracken, 94, a resident of Moses Lake, passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at Brookdale Senior Living in Moses Lake. Please sign the online guestbook or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com. Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel & Crematory.

Betty Jo McCracken was born Aug. 21, 1922 in Denver, Colo. to Lois L. and Roy A. McCracken Sr. As a young child, the family resided in Denver, Colo., Kansas City, Kan. and Lovell, Wyo., eventually settling in Laurel, Mont. where she completed high school. Following high school, Betty entered Registered Nurse training at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, Mont.

After completing her training, she entered the Army Nurse Corps and was stationed in Spokane, Wash. After the service, she joined the Salvation Army and worked as a maternity nurse for several years before continuing advanced degree education at the University of Pennsylvania. She subsequently taught as a college nursing instructor in Michigan before being appointed a professor at the University of Missouri. She then was a full professor of nursing at the University of Arizona from which she retired in 1986. She moved to Moses Lake three years later and has resided here until her death.

Betty Jo was baptized at an early age in the Christian faith and was a staunch believer in Jesus Christ throughout her life. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Moses Lake.
