Time for a nationwide revival of faith

| January 22, 2017 12:00 AM

I don’t know about the rest of the world, but in my small part of it, I am cold. The kind of cold that causes me to want to hibernate.

This winter the cold seems to just sink into my body and stay there. I can’t figure out why my house at 70 degrees in the winter seems so much cooler than 70 degrees in the summer.

I am looking forward to spring with longing in my heart. I want to be able to be free of my heavy clothing, my boots and start fresh with the hope of a new beginning.

Right now I feel weighed down and trapped by the restrictions of winter.

I believe that this heavy feeling is what people feel in our world today. They are weighed down by the things they experience every day.

For example, the television, internet, and social media are always bombarding them with ideas that are “socially” acceptable and I believe that sometimes those ideas are just plain wrong.

The word of God should be our measuring stick when it comes to what we think and do not about some form of media.

I have found that if you go to the scriptures, you can usually find an answer to almost every problem.

You might have to dig into the verses, but the answers are there. The scriptures are where you find direction and new life.

I am also excited about a new beginning or “spring” in the spiritual life of our country. Some people say that believing in God has come to an end but the latest research by the Pew Research Center says differently.

In their study, 63 percent of Americans say they absolutely believe in God and 20 percent are fairly certain there is a God.

That is well over half of our nation, and those numbers give me hope. With that many people believing, God’s work can grow and thrive in our country, cities and towns.

Maybe now is the time for a nationwide revival of faith. In the spirit of that revival, I am inviting you to attend church sometime in this New Year.

The Royal City Methodist would love to see you Sunday mornings at 9 am, but it doesn’t really matter where you go as long as you do go because God would love to see you too.
