With Seattle, all you can do is hope for the best
The Seattle Seahawks can win the Super Bowl, but with what has happened this year, I don’t have the confidence of the SB 48 and 49 years.
So I’m looking at the rest of the season with hope. But I won’t pray. I don’t want to put that kind of pressure on God.
Watching the game against Detroit, I kept wondering if that running game was real or effective only against Detroit.
Before the game, Russell sounded as if he was going to go full out. He rarely had a Russell flash, and he was sacked a few times.
The guy with the unbelievable flashes was receiver Paul Richardson, who’s indicating he wants to play more next year. That catch in the corner of the end zone would be rated the best ever if Odell Beckham didn’t play in New York.
The game went so Seahawk-like that I didn’t realize Doug Baldwin was having a great night until it was mentioned after the fanny catch.
As Seattle started to dominate, I started to believe the Hawks were so confident about beating Detroit that they decided not to show future opponents all of their stuff. Certainly Atlanta won’t be able to ignore the run possibility this weekend.
Finally, there was a game when a Seahawk didn’t leave with major injury. It seems that all of this year I’ve been dreading one every game.
Going back to Russell, maybe the Russell flash is that he’s still playing. I thought his season or career would end at any time, especially the first half of the season. He willed his ankle and knee pains away, and that’s one heck of trick.
Russell is the one reason I believe the Hawks can win it all. His will is unmatched in the NFL. As Baldwin likes to say, he’s a wonderful freak of nature.
Another reason I have hope for the Seahawks is the way they show up for the biggest games. Let me remind you they beat Atlanta and AFC No. 1 New England in the regular season and NFC No. 1 Dallas in the pre-season.
The only question is whether this team is fully back from all of the adversity.
