March 10, 1944 – December 30, 2016

Beloved by his family, Carl Nathan Warring passed away Dec. 30, 2016. Born in Oil City, Penn. in 1944 to Clara and Perry Warring, Carl grew up in a loving family of six brothers John, Ernie, Perry, Don, Chuck and Jim and six sisters Lucille, Erma, Clare Marie, Virginia, Esther and Cyndi. The siblings looked out for one another and loved each other dearly throughout their lives.

Carl graduated from high school in Tempe, Ariz. and served in the United States Coast Guard. He married Marimae O’Connor in 1966. Carl earned degrees from Cerritos College with an AA, Long Beach State University with a BA and Gonzaga University with a Juris Doctorate. In 1968, Carl and Marimae had twins, Kathleen and Constance followed by son Carl in 1970.

After completing law school, Carl and his family moved to Moses Lake. He was elected Grant County District Court Judge and served there for several years before returning to private practice. He labored in the Grant County legal field for 41 years. When he fell ill, members of the Grant County Bar Association aided him to discharge his deeply felt responsibility to his clients. Carl had a passion for his practice and an abiding respect for and valued our legal system.

Carl assisted teachers and students at Moses Lake High School in Debate and Mock Trial competitions. Carl, a Life Scout, was a leader in the Boy Scout program. He devoted many hours to mentoring scouts. Carl believed in the Scout Law and teaching the values encompassed in therein. He was pleased to serve as judge for a mock trial put on by his grandsons’ Boy Scout Troop in University Place, Wash. Carl was thrilled when grandson Aidan reached Eagle Scout rank and believed grandson Carl will transition from Life to Eagle in due course. He greatly enjoyed watching grandson Ethan play soccer. Carl fished, golfed and practiced tai chi. He bowled for many years in leagues at King Pin Lanes and Lake Bowl.

He was a lighthouse of reason and integrity guiding those who knew him. His wisdom, love and humor will be greatly missed.

Carl is preceded in death by his mother and father; sisters Erma and Clare Marie; brothers Ernie, Perry, Don, Chuck and daughter Constance Renee. Carl is survived by his wife of 50 years Marimae; daughter Kathleen Rath, son-in-law Michael and their children Al, Aidan, and Carl. Survivors include son Carl Warring, daughter-in-law Pam and their son Ethan. Carl’s ashes will be interred privately at Washington State Veteran’s Cemetery at Medical Lake, as Carl declined public services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Boy Scouts of America Troop or the Thomas More Scholarship fund at Gonzaga University School of Law.
