Daniel A. Sarles Sr February 25, 1936 - December 25, 2016
Daniel A. Sarles Sr., 80, passed away peacefully on Dec. 25, 2016 at his home in Benton City, Wash. He was born in Washington, Penn. on Feb. 25, 1936 to Daniel and Ruth (Stenhouse) Hufford. After Dan’s father passed away early in his life, Dan was adopted by Hugh Sarles when his mother remarried. Dan spent 20 years in the United States Air Force retiring in 1974 while stationed in Othello, Wash. Following this, Dan was the building maintenance engineer who kept the Othello hospital running smoothly for many years and later worked for Westinghouse as an electrical and instrumentation specialist. Dan was a quiet man, who dearly loved all of his children and grandchildren. Some of his other passions were golf, hunting and helping remodel the Pine Street Baptist Church. After 51 years of marriage, Dan was preceded in death by his wife Mildred A. (Thompson) whom he lovingly cared for during her final years until her death in 2006.
In 2008, Dan joined with a special person, Joy Hirsch. Together they had eight years of happiness, comfort and companionship. Dan especially appreciated the love and warmth of her extended family. Joy provided loving care for him through his last difficult days. Dan is also survived by three children Diana L. Sickle of Pasco, Daniel A. Sarles, Jr. of Wenatchee and Dennis A. Sarles of Othello. He has eight living grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Columbia Memorial Chapel and Gardens in Pasco, Wash. on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 at 11 a.m., followed by Air Force Honors. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV.org).
