It can be tough to see some snowflakes in the darkness

| January 1, 2017 12:00 AM

My oldest daughter and I were in Royal City a week or so ago for Bible study. We meet with church members at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays in my office at the church to fellowship and discuss God’s word. (Everyone is welcome by the way)

As we came out of the church building to head back to Moses Lake, it was snowing hard. It was that fine, glittery snow that results when moisture meets really cold temperatures.

As we headed up the hill by the Royal City schools, my daughter decided to call her dad to see if it was snowing at home. After looking out the window, he informed us that there was no snow coming down.

Well this was hard for us to believe because snowflakes were swirling by the thousands around our car and the snow was at least 2 inches deep.

My daughter and I looked at each other in disbelief but then decided the snow would probably stop once we crossed the Frenchman Hills.

To make a long story short, the snow never did stop and, as we got closer to home, we began to question whether or not my husband had actually looked outside when he said it wasn’t snowing.

It turns out that he had peered into the darkness but couldn’t see the tiny flakes against the black darkness of the night. He couldn’t see the light (of the flakes) for the dark.

I believe, from a Christian point of view, that is what is happening in our world today.

There are millions of people who truly believe in God and try to live their lives in accordance with His will. But they are over-shadowed by those who want to stop the light.

Christians are like millions of white, swirling snowflakes that are beautiful and full of goodness, but the forces of evil don’t want others to see us because we might bring even more people to the light, which is God.

They try to stop things like nativity scenes and prayer around school flagpoles. They believe their right to not believe in God trumps our rights and that we should give in to their demands at the cost of our own beliefs.

I would like to encourage all believers to keep on swirling in the world. Stand up for your right to believe in a loving Lord, and always bring light to those in darkness.
