Cold and flu season is upon us

| February 18, 2017 12:00 AM

Once again cold and flu season is upon us. It happens every year, and millions of people succumb to various viruses and bacteria.

A normal healthy person can go from walking around to down and out in a matter of hours.

A perfect example of this is my oldest daughter. This is her first year working in a public school, and she is being exposed to more germs than she ever imagined.

Every teacher goes through that first year when they catch everything because their immune system isn’t up and running at full capacity yet.

After thirty years of teaching, I am hardly ever sick. I guess there are some good things about aging.

This week my daughter went from being a happy and healthy 29-year-old, to a red-nosed, whiney, germy ball of snot. It wasn’t pretty to watch.

As the virus took over and her immune system began its raging battle of defense, she lost color in her face, became cold all over, and ran a fever.

She was being invaded by outside forces she didn’t want anything to do with but that she couldn’t get away from.

It is the same for Christians in the world today. There are many outside things that invade our space and put pressure on us to just give in because it is easier that way.

Mass media, specialty groups, demonstrators, and even some churches are all pressuring us to think like they do.

The topics can be anything from the environment to LGBQT, rights and everyone has an opinion that they try and force on you.

I am not going to tell you what to think, but I am going to encourage you to dig into the scriptures to see what God has to say about these subjects.

It is all in there just waiting for you to read and interpret for yourself. I have found that most people can read something and understand it.

If, though, you read a scripture that is causing you some trouble, that is where prayer comes in.

Don’t try and make up your mind alone. Talk to God and then listen for the answer. Your Creator will walk you through it and help you come to an understanding that you can live with that is within the plan for creation.

I encourage you to stand up for your beliefs and not give in just because it is easier.
