Othello Ministerial Association's Celebration of the Arts next week

| February 10, 2017 12:00 AM

OTHELLO — The Othello Ministerial Association will present a Celebration of the Arts at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, corner of Elm and Seventh Street, at 3 p.m. next Tuesday, Feb. 12.

Visual artists from the local area will be on hand, displaying creations from their hands, inspired by the talent given to them by God.

“We talked at our regular Ministerial Association meeting about how much talent we have in our congregations, and we thought it would be fun to celebrate that talent all together,” Pastor Don Short of Pilgrim Lutheran said.

There will be original poetry by Fran Parker of Othello Church of the Nazarene. The Othello Ecumenical Ensemble, which is a group of musicians who attend and lead at local churches, will give its debut performance.

Adam Janes is the new pastor of the Othello Christin Church and brings a family full of musical talent with him.

“Coming to Othello feels like a warm hug,” said Tina Janes, who plays violin in the ensemble. Pastor Becky Anderson of First Presbyterian said, “It turns out the pastors of our ministerial group all have musical talent and playing in the ensemble is really fun.”

Choral music will be presented by the Pilgrim Lutheran Church Choir under the direction of Bob Reichert. Along with directing the ensemble, George Roper will play solo bells.

“The purpose of the event is to give thanks to God for all of the talent we enjoy in Othello,” Short said. “We will celebrate our gifts with praise, music and Scripture.”

After the brief service there will be an art walk for guests to see all of the visual creations of local artists. A reception with light refreshments will take place in the church fellowship hall following the service.

“Anyone with an appreciation for art is encouraged to attend,” Short said.
