Four-legged deputy helps nab burglary suspect

LAKEVIEW — K-9 deputy Chika helped nab a burglary suspect in the Lakeview area late Wednesday evening.

On Wednesday night a homeowner in the 400 block of Road 18.5 Northeast was alerted by their dog of a possible disturbance on the property. The homeowner looked outside and reportedly spotted two people going through their garage, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle in which the suspects showed up at the scene reportedly got stuck in the snow in the homeowner’s driveway. The homeowner was able to scare the suspects, who fled the scene on foot and left their car behind. Deputies and K-9 deputy Chika arrived at the scene and started tracking the suspects.

After about an hour Chika reportedly found Jeremy Tracy, 37, hiding under a tree three blocks from the scene of the burglary. Tracy received treatment for bites from the K-9 and was booked into the Grant County Jail for suspicion of second-degree burglary. The second suspect has not been detained by deputies, the sheriff's office stated in a release.
