Joyce (Jones) Maslen

| February 9, 2017 2:00 AM

July 24, 1928 – February 7, 2017

Tuesday morning, Feb. 7, Joyce found her way home. She was at her daughter Mary’s home in front of a cozy warm fire. Her work was done and it was time to rest. The last three years were a struggle for her but she had an amazing spirit. She loved to walk but she hadn’t been able to walk as much as she used to. Some of her happiest days were spent walking around the car washes and the Safeway parking lot. It was her entertainment. She loved it when she would spy a quarter or a dime here and there and sometimes she would really get lucky.

She tried to never miss church services on Sunday as she loved her church family and she also loved her many friends at the Senior Center.

Gardening was something that she enjoyed and she also loved to crochet. Each year she would crochet lap blankets for all of the local retirement homes and deliver them at Christmas time. Her joy came from being able to help others.

Joyce also enjoyed spending time with her family. She would visit her son Johnny and his family in Idaho, where they would all go blackberry and huckleberry picking. She took many trips with her daughter Mary and her family. One of her favorites was on her 80th birthday when she enjoyed walking on the beaches of Hawaii. Her grand daughter Jordan had a hard time keeping up with her Grandma.

In her younger years Joyce worked as a District Tupperware Manager. This allowed her to make many lasting friendships.

We joked that her first love was Texas. That’s where she grew up. She attended school in Denison, Texas. She moved out to Moses Lake in 1950 when her husband Clarence Jones took a job working on the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project.

They bought a farm on the lake in Mae Valley, where they raised alfalfa and Black Angus cattle. Joyce had four children; David (Linda), Sprague, Wash, Roxie Heard, Mary Eve (John) Shipley, Moses Lake, Wash. and John (Julie), Genessee, Idaho.

She had five grandchildren: Jordan Shipley, Brody Shipley, Casie Jo (Jones) Gines, Garrett Jones and Austen Jones.

She also had two great-grand-daughters: Jayden Eve Shipley and Drue Eloiise.

Joyce Later married Wes Maslen and they enjoyed many happy years together traveling and visiting relatives. She also enjoyed being Grandma to Marcie and Mark Maslen.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents George and Bessie Shearer, her sisters Lynn and Betty, her brother Dale, her daughter Roxie and her husbands Clarence Jones and Wes Maslen. Viewing will held from noon to 12:45 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 at the Church of Christ, 812 Sharon Ave, Moses Lake, Wash. A celebration of Joyce’s life will follow at 1 p.m.

After services the family will gather at the Moses Lake Senior Center, located at 608 E. Third Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Church of Christ, P.O. Box 848, Moses Lake, WA 98837 or the Cancer Foundation.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Assured Hospice for their help.
