WENATCHEE — In a repeat of the first meeting between these teams, Moses Lake built a big lead early and cruised past Wenatchee 46-30.

The Chiefs led 17-6 after one quarter.

“The first quarter we jumped on them,” head coach Matt Strophy said. “And that’s really the focal point for us against a team like Wenatchee.”

Moses Lake’s (9-1, 16-3) largest lead eclipsed 20 points in addition to holding the Panthers’ leading scorer Alli Hallberg to six points. Hallberg, a 6-foot guard who can shoot from distance, had just come off a 30-point performance against league-leader Sunnyside. However, Moses Lake has had the recipe to stop her with the combination of Abby Rathbun and Morgan Yamane.

“Where she (Hallberg) goes, they go,” Strophy said.

Jessica Olson had a strong all-around game with 10 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Jamie Loera led all scorers with 12 points.

Moses Lake is ranked second in the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) poll and finishes its regular season at home against Davis.

Wenatchee 52, Moses Lake 50

WENATCHEE — Moses Lake let a late lead slip and lost to Wenatchee 52-50.

The Chiefs were outscored 20-10 in the fourth quarter.

“We didn’t handle the pressure and that’s my fault,” head coach John Hohman said. “Those kids played tough.”

Ryan Karstetter and Zach Phillips led the way offensively with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Gio Walker added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Moses Lake (7-4, 12-7) has to win Friday against Davis to keep the No. 2 district seed.
