Pateros girls roll past Moses Lake Christian with big third quarter
MOSES LAKE — Pateros came into Moses Lake trying to keep pace with CWB-leading Entiat (16-2, 11-0) and played like a team currently with the No. 2 seed.
The Nannies (17-3, 11-2 CWB) outscored Moses Lake Christian Academy 17-4 in the third quarter to run away with Tuesday night’s CWB game 52-14.
Moses Lake Christian freshman Rylee Homesley had a nice little stretch in the fourth quarter when she scored on three consecutive possessions. But the Lions (2-16, 2-10 CWB) were short on shooters and short on points.
Homesley and Kyersten Hunt led the Lions with seven points apiece. Aubrey Miller led all scorers with 20 points and Bobbi Hall added 17 for the Nannies, who opened up a 37-16 lead going into the final quarter.
“In the fourth quarter, we were able to set our offense up, which was different than we did in the first half,” Moses Lake Christian coach Josh Kast said. “Rylee had three baskets in a row there. Offensively, we’re just trying to set good screens and make good passes. We were allowing them to get three or four shots per possession to our one, so our objective was to box out and rebound in the second half.”
The Lions did a little better job controlling the boards in the second and had a nice little scoring spurt to end the third quarter. Annie Roemer scored with 55 seconds remaining and Hunt connected on a runner off the glass to end the quarter.
Homesley scored six of her seven points in the final eight minutes for the Lions, who host Riverside Christian on Thursday.
