Columbia Basin roundup: Moses Lake rallies to win at West Valley

YAKIMA — Moses Lake made up a one-point deficit after the first quarter, outscoring West Valley 18-7 in the second quarter, and won 52-40.

Abby Rathbun scored a team-high 12 points. Jamie Loera and Abby Rathbun added 10 points apiece.

The Chiefs (8-2, 15-3) travel to Wenatchee on Tuesday before hosting Davis Friday for senior night. With two games left, the Chief are ranked fourth in the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) poll.

Prosser 44, Othello 24

PROSSER — Othello totaled seven first-half points and lost to Prosser 44-24.

Othello (2-16, 2-18) played a virtually even second half against Prosser, recording 17 points to the Mustangs’ 19.

Macy Hampton led the Huskies with 14 points and Tanaya Andersen had four.

Soap Lake drops a pair

Soap Lake ended its season with two losses against Tonasket and Lake Roosevelt.

The Eagles (3-13, 4-13) lost to the Tigers 61-26 and to the Raiders 55-18.

Boys basketball

West Valley 82, Moses Lake 58

YAKIMA — Moses Lake had difficulty slowing down West Valley’s potent scoring attack and lost 82-58.

The Rams had three players score over 20 points.

Zach Phillips was the only Chief (7-3, 12-6) in double figures with 22 points; Gio Walker had nine.

The Rams pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Chiefs 19-8.

Prosser 64, Othello 60

PROSSER — Othello nearly pulled off the upset, but lost at Prosser 64-60.

Both teams were tied after three quarters, but the Mustangs outscored the Huskies 17-13 in the fourth.

The Huskies (3-15, 3-18) trailed 37-29 at halftime and got back into the game with an 18-10 third quarter.

Kyler Villarreal scored a team-high 19 points.

Soap Lake wins twice

Soap Lake boys basketball solidified its playoff spot with two wins to close the regular season.

The Eagles (9-7, 10-7) beat Tonasket 63-51 and Lake Roosevelt 57-50.

Jackson Wilks had 20 points and Brayden Winters added 14 against the Raiders.

Soap Lake will play its first district playoff game Feb. 8 at Manson.

Girls bowling

Camille and Charley Sanislo score over 800 at state

UNIVERSITY PLACE — Camille and Charley Sanislo totaled over 800 pins at the state girls bowling championships to finish 33rd and 35th, respectively.

Camille Sanislo finished strong with a high score of 172 in her final game for an 885 total. Charley Sanislo had a high game of 167 and finished with 864 pins.

Eastmont’s Cheyanne Greening was unable to defend her individual crown as South Kitsap’s Sarah Stolle edged her by two pins, 1,253-1,251.

Eastmont won the 4A team title comfortably.

Men’s college basketball

Big Bend 66, Blue Mountain 57

PENDLETON, Ore. — Big Bend cruised to a 15-point halftime lead and beat Blue Mountain 66-57.

NWAC leading-scorer Jacob McCord was limited to 10 points on seven shots, but still posted a double-double with 13 rebounds. Josh Erickson scored a game-high 18 points off the bench.

Big Bend (8-2, 16-7) is tied for first place in the East region with Spokane.

Women’s college basketball

Big Bend 67, Blue Mountain 66

PENDLETON, Ore. — Big Bend snapped its seven-game losing streak with a tight win at Blue Mountain 67-66.

The Vikings (3-7, 11-12) led 57-49 before the Timberwolves roared back with a 17-10 fourth quarter.

Hailey Garrity and Sunnie Martinez scored 12 points each to lead the Vikings. Callie Gronning and Kelsey Foster also reached double figures with 11 points apiece.
