One hurt in Royal City car crash

| February 4, 2017 12:00 AM

ROYAL CITY — A Highway 26 collision of two cars near Royal City on Jan. 18 sent one person to a hospital.

The two-car crash occurred at about 10:20 in the evening when a car traveling west on 26 went out of control, rotated, crossed the center line and struck a car in the eastbound lane at milepost 17.

Neither drugs nor alcohol was a contributing factor, the Washington State Patrol said. Both drivers were employing proper safety restraints.

The vehicle that went out of control was a 2006 black Acura RSX. It was driven by Shaun R. Gurley, 55, of Seattle. Injured, he was taken to Othello Community Hospital. The Acura was impounded by Davis Towing of Schawana.

The second car, a maroon 2015 Ford Explorer, was driven by Preston K. Anderson, 66, of Royal City. He was uninjured. His vehicle was impounded by Davis Towing.

The vehicles came out of the collision blocking the highway. Gurley was cited by the WSP for “speed too fast for conditions” and for not having vehicle insurance.
