School bond is a worthwhile investment

| February 2, 2017 2:00 AM

School ballot: I vote “yes.” Why? The greatest investment you and I can make in our community is in our children.

No, I do not have any children in the schools, but I know that my money is being invested in the future leaders of Moses Lake. You may say that the cost is too much. Many years ago Moses Lake “fathers” wanted to build another bridge across the lake help the traffic. The State of Washington government would pay some of the cost. The people of Moses Lake said no, it would cost too much. Well, guess what? Our traffic is many times worse. Now we do not have the much-needed bridge.

Our schools are crowded. I am sure you know about the split sessions, the long days, et cetera. We need to start thinking about our youth. Our town is booming and it isn’t going to stop. If you are concerned about higher taxes, than I suggest you think about this. If we do not build the needed schools now, you will one day have much higher taxes to pay because the cost of the schools will then go two or three or four times higher than today. Remember what happened to the much needed bridge: gone forever.

Let’s you and I do something good happen for all the children. Let us be proud of our schools and our children and give them the best education of any in the state. Moses Lake is ranked No. 1 in small cities in our state. We are growing. We need to take care of our town’s children.

Let us be known as a community that cares. Great schools make for great communities and great people.
