Royal wrestling 2nd at Dream Duals last weekend

ROYAL CITY — The Royal High wrestling team is finding its stride as the post-season approaches, taking second place last weekend at the prestigious Dream Duals in Spokane.

Among Royal’s successes was a 36-33 victory over Zillah, which is one of the better class 1A programs in the state.

“We wrestled extremely well as a team, considering that we gave up four weight classes almost all day,” coach Pat Mitchell said. “We got on some really good runs as a team and wrestled tough even in the matches that we lost. I am proud of all of our guys and their willingness to learn and be coachable.”

Royal’s leading contenders for state tournament berths, 126-pounder Eduardo Rodriguez and 132-pounder Abraham Medina, went 5-0 at the Dream Duals, with both boys recording three pins. The toughest match either of them had was an 8-3 decision by Medina.

Royal’s first dual was a 39-30 victory over Lakeside.

126 pounds – Eduardo Rodriguez pinned Lakeside’s Andrew Smith in 1:30.

132 – Abraham Medina 8-3 decision over Lane Young.

152 – Addin Felker pinned Luke Schneider in 15 seconds.

160 – Jacob Joslin pinned Jermie Sonnabend in 54 seconds.

182 – C.J. Quintero pinned Joesph Charbonneau in 20 seconds.

Royal forfeited 103, 113, 120, 285.

Royal’s second dual was a 45-23 loss to Freeman, which won the team title.

126 – Eduardo Rodriguez major decision over Logan Hold, 8-0.

132 – Abraham Medina major decision over Nolan Doloughan, 9-0.

138 – Regan Callahan pinned Tanner Smith in 5:02.

152 – Addin Felker pinned Riley Flack in 1:06.

182 – C.J. Quintero decisioned Brandon Iris 5-1.

Royal forfeited at 106, 113, 120, 285.

Royal’s third dural was a preview of an upcoming SCAC East showdown with Warden. Royal won 48-30.

126 – Eduardo Rodriguez decisioned Bryce Martinez, 4-2.

132 – Abraham Medina pinned Rodrigo Ozuna in 1:25.

138 - Regan Callahan pinned Dominic Guerra in 5:01.

145 – Lorenzo Myrick decisioned Holden Haworth, 7-4.

152 – Addin Felker pinned Ivan Dominguez in 3:49.

170 – Jack Diaz pinned Christian Gonzalez in 2:50.

Royal received forfeits at 182, 220, 285.

Royal’s fourth dual was a 36-36 tie with Chelan.
