Cannabis businesses a plus for the community

| February 2, 2017 2:00 AM

It is very disappointing and frustrating to see Grant County have such an extreme proposed pull-back on a new economic driver like legal cannabis has had on new jobs and investment in the local area community.

Grant County approved many new businesses in the community and those new businesses trusted them that this investment was safe.

Now it seems that a quick knee-jerk reaction to a few odor concerns has turned into what seems a massive pull back on state legal cannabis growing in Grant County.

We should really make sure that the majority of people agree with a big pull-back like this and is not being driven by a very small group of vocal community members that don’t like cannabis. The voters of Washington state approved these businesses to support the state coffers and bring needed economic development statewide.

Under any reasonable definition growing a plant indoor or outdoor should be considered agriculture. Just common sense would bring you to that answer.

I really hope that reasonable consideration for the impact this decision would have on jobs and new businesses would be given and that all voices on this subject be heard. I plan on attending the coming meeting and hope reason will win the day and really consider the damage to many in the community this change would make. Thanks for accepting this different perspective on this issue.
