MATTAWA — Warden outlasted a late Wahluke rally and won 70-64.

The Warriors entered the game in first place in the South Central Athletic Conference East, but dropped into a tie with Warden after the loss. Warden (10-2, 14-4) plays Wahluke against at home on Thursday with a chance to clinch the league championship.

“They wouldn’t go away, but we made our free throws down the stretch,” head coach Wes Richins said.

JR Delgado and Adam Richins poured in 21 points each to lead the Cougars. Sophomores Martin Arriaga and Zach Richins combined to add 20 points.

Tanner Skone posted big numbers on the interior with six points, 15 rebounds and three blocks.

“He played extremely well inside the paint,” Richins said.

The win propelled Warden up to No. 9 in the RPI rankings.

Riverside Christian 49, Moses Lake Christian 27

YAKIMA — A sluggish start doomed Moses Lake Christian against Riverside Christian.

MLCA (5-4, 7-9) fell behind 16-2 in the first quarter and 32-9 at halftime, going on to loss 49-27. The Lions were able to outscore the Crusaders 18-17 in the second half.

“Defensively, we were a lot better in the second half than the first half, head coach Lonny Brown said.

Ben Cabellero scored a team-high 15 points; Walt Meise added seven.

Manson 60, Soap Lake 50

MANSON — Soap Lake could not keep up with Manson and lost 60-50.

The Eagles trailed by one point at halftime.

Brayden Winters and Jackson Wilks scored 18 and 16 points, respectively.

Girls basketball

Toppenish 63, Quincy 24

QUINCY — Quincy head coach Cory Medina said his team came out a little too jazzed on senior night, which led to too many turnovers against Toppenish in a 63-24 loss.

“I think the girls went out and tried to do a lot,” he said.

When the Jacks (0-16, 2-16) eventually settled down and ran their offense the deficit was too much.

Mashayla Schaapman scored a team-high six points. Hanna Soelter and Rachel Faw added four points each.

Quincy finishes its season at Othello on Thursday and at Ephrata on Friday.

Warden 59, Wahluke 39

MATTAWA — Warden leapfrogged Wahluke back into fifth place in the South Central Athletic Conference East with a road win 59-39.

“Turnovers were down, we played real good defense and we shot real well,” head coach Dan Caballero said.

Bailey Whitney led the Cougars (4-8, 6-12) with 19 points. Cassidy Turner and Ashlyn Yamane also reached double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Riverside Christian 44, Moses Lake Christian 23

YAKIMA — Moses Lake Christian dropped a road game to Riverside Christian 44-23.

Autumn Jones and Annie Roemer led the Lions (2-7, 2-13) with seven and six points, respectively.

With three games left, Moses Lake Christian has an outside shot at the district playoffs. The Lions would need to win at least two out of their last three games and hope fourth-place Thorp-Easton loses its final four games.

Manson 43, Soap Lake 29

MANSON — Nicole Sprague scored 10 points, but Soap Lake fell to Manson 43-29.

Tracie Delgado added seven points.

Boys wrestling

ROYAL CITY — Late pins by Robert Arredondo (220) and Martin Dominguez (285) sealed a tight win for Warden against Royal 36-34.

Warden head coach Brent Cox called Tuesday’s competition one of the best duals he had ever seen.

“It was just awesome,” he said.
