Jackknifed semi blocks I-90 Monday

| December 5, 2017 2:00 AM

VANTAGE — An early Monday morning crash near Vantage closed down the eastbound lanes on Interstate 90 for a few hours.

About 7:55 a.m. Michael Ferry, 43, of Coeur d’Alene, was driving a 2015 International Prostar semi-truck with a trailer east on Interstate 90, about two miles east of Vantage, when he allegedly drove over the fog line. The semi reportedly struck a guardrail on the Vantage Bridge, jackknifed and traveled 100 yards before stopping and blocking both eastbound I-90 lanes, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Ferry was not injured in the collision. The semi-truck was totaled and towed from the scene. Eastbound I-90 was closed for a few hours after the crash and traffic was detoured to state Route 26 as crews cleaned up the scene and investigated the collision.

The patrol reports the cause of the collision was Ferry driving too fast for conditions. Ferry was cited by the patrol for speeding.
