You're my only hope

“Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope!” Remember these epic words spoken by Princess Leia in a hologram message in Stars Wars? In the midst of a hopeless situation, the princess of the Rebellion sends out a desperate message. As she is about to be captured by the evil Darth Vader, she places her plea inside R2-D2, not knowing whether it will ever be seen or heard. (Obviously it was heard and the Star Wars saga continues, see you at the theater)
Have you ever felt like you have sent out your last desperate plea and now you are just waiting and hoping and maybe wondering if help will ever come? I have some good news for you. You don’t have to wait for Obi-Wan to come help you. Jesus is our only hope. There is nothing or no one else in the whole world who can win against the powers of evil and darkness — except Jesus.
No matter where you find yourself today, you are invited into a journey of hope. Consider the people who were part of the journey that first Christmas. There was a young teenage girl who was pregnant and not married. There was her fiancé who knew he wasn’t the father of her child. There was an innkeeper who was too busy at work to even notice what was happening. Oh, and there was a crazy, jealous, evil king running the government.
Three wise guys from another country followed a star to see Jesus. And then some common sheepherders that no one really listened to, they were “have-nots”. Sound like the world you live in?
When Mary heard the words “Nothing is impossible with God”, she believed, and hope was born. When Joseph heard that this was God at work, he believed, and hope was born. When those sheepherders heard that a savior of the world was born, they believed that they were a part of that world He came to save, and hope was born. And those wise guys, they simply saw a star and followed it to find Jesus. When they saw him, they believed, and once again hope was born.
When Jesus was born, hope was born. This Christmas, would you say “Help me Jesus. You’re my only hope”? If you do, Jesus will hear you, and if you believe, hope will be born in you.
