MOSES LAKE — The Battle of the Badge softball game was rescheduled for Sept. 7. The game had been postponed due to an off-duty deputy accidentally shooting his wife, who survived and is recovering from surgery.

The face-off between the Moses Lake Police Department and Grant County Sheriff’s Office will take place at the Larson Playfield, 2501 W. Broadway Ave. in Moses Lake at 6 p.m. Every dollar raised from the game will directly benefit the Boys and Girls Club of the Columbia Basin. Last year’s game netted around $3,000. Admission is free.

Attendees will have the opportunity to check out police vehicles, enjoy in-between inning entertainment, grab a snack at the concessions area and test out their arm strength on a radar gun. Past Battle of the Badge matches featured the MLPD taking on the Moses Lake Fire Department, so the new format of dueling police agencies is sure to be something fresh and exciting for those in attendance.

The game was originally scheduled for Aug. 10, but the decision was made to postpone the match after Deputy Jose Rivera shot his wife, Sydney, Aug. 9 in Moses Lake. The couple has told investigators the shooting was accidental. Sydney has undergone several surgeries and Jose is currently on paid administrative leave while the Columbia Basin Investigative Team investigates the shooting.
