SOAP LAKE — K-9 deputy Chicka helped track down one of two suspects from a Soap Lake residential burglary early Tuesday morning.

About 3:30 a.m. deputies received a call from a resident in the 3300 block of Trout Lodge Road Northeast, near Soap Lake, who advised a person broke into their house. Deputies and officers with the Ephrata Police Department responded to the scene as the male and female suspects allegedly fled the home in a blue Ford Explorer.

The Ford was located nearby and K-9 Chicka, Chicka's handler Cpl. Ric Char, other deputies and EPD officers started searching for the two suspects. A short track ensued and K-9 Chicka was reportedly able to find Kellie E. Lewis, 45, of Moses Lake, hiding in some sagebrush. Lewis was transported to Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata for treatment of injuries she received during her encounter with Chicka.

Deputies searched for the suspect, identified as David Harris, 45, of Moses Lake, until he later contacted authorities to report his Ford Explorer was stolen from his Neppel Road home. Deputies responded to Harris’ home and arrested him.

Lewis and Harris were booked into the Grant County Jail on suspicion of residential burglary.
