Injured hiker rescued from 50-foot ravine

| August 29, 2017 3:00 AM

PALISADES — An injured hiker was rescued from the bottom of a 50-foot ravine over the weekend in a multi-agency rescue effort.

About 3:45 p.m. on Sunday Grant County Fire District No. 13 and American Medical Response responded to a report of an injured hiker near McCarteney Creek, on the west side of Rimrock Meadows. Due to the terrain, rescue workers initially couldn’t reach the hiker at the bottom of the ravine. A radio, blankets and medical supplies were lowered for the injured male.

A technical rescue team consisting of responders from Grant County Fire District No. 5 and the Moses Lake Fire Department, along with a rope rescue team from Chelan County, were able to rescue the hiker, who was airlifted from the scene via LifeFlight helicopter to an unspecified hospital for treatment.

The extent of the hiker’s injuries have not been released.
