The Department of Fish and Wildlife has announced that they will be holding a public meeting on Tuesday, September 19th in Pateros.

The purpose of the meeting is to receive input and answer questions about a variety of topics regarding management of fish and wildlife resources in North Central Washington.

According to Jim Brown, Region 2 Director, WDFW staff will provide updates on some issues, but most of the meeting will be dedicated to questions, comments and discussions with those who attend. Wildfires, drought and low fish returns have affected fish and wildlife populations throughout the region.

Some of the anticipated topics of discussion include this summer’s wild Chinook fishery, the fall steelhead and salmon seasons and post-wildfire habitat recovery efforts.

The meeting will be held at the Howard’s on the River Central Building, 233 Lakeshore Drive, in Pateros.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 – 8 p.m. Another item that may be of interest to salmon anglers is the no-size limit and no bag limit fishery for Atlantic salmon that is open in the San Juan Islands.

The nets at a fish farm operation on Cypress Island failed, releasing four to five thousand 10-pound fish, and the department wants anglers to catch as many of them as possible.
