EPHRATA — Grant County is looking for someone to join the county’s Planning Commission.

“The Planning Commission makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners for changes and updates in the comprehensive plan and the zoning code, as well as rezones,” the commission said in a statement issued Thursday.

The prospective member must reside in Commission District 3, which covers the southwest portion of Grant County, including Quincy, Mattawa, and Royal City, the same district represented by Commissioner Cindy Carter.

The open seat was held by Jim Fleming, who served on the Planning Commission for 20 years, according to Grant County Planning Director Damien Hooper.

The term of service is four years, and the position is unpaid. However, mileage is paid. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month in the County Commissioners Hearing Room at the courthouse in Ephrata.

“However it is not uncommon to have multiple meetings per month,” the statement said.

Interested residents can find an application online at the Grant County government website. Applications are due by Sept. 6. For further information, contact Hooper at the County Planning Office, 509-754-2011 ext. 2595.
