File photo MLFD catcher Andy Grenier’s heart was in the right place in this play at last year’s Battle of the Badges, even if the ball was not. This year’s event is tonight.

MOSES LAKE — A year after its 17-9 thumping of the Moses Lake Fire Department, the Moses Lake Police Department is setting its sights on a victory over their fellow brothers in blue over at the Grant County Sheriff’s Office in tonight’s Battle of the Badge softball game.

The annual friendly match will take place at 6 p.m. tonight at the Larson Playfield, 2501 W. Broadway Ave., in Moses Lake. All proceeds from the game directly benefit the Boys and Girls Club of the Columbia Basin. Between sponsorships, donations and concessions, last year’s game raised around $3,000.

On display at the game will be police vehicles, in-between inning entertainment, concessions and a radar gun for attendees to test out their arm strength. Past Battle of the Badge softball games featured the MLPD taking on the MLFD, so this year’s switch-up with the MLPD taking on the sheriff’s office should add an interesting wrinkle to the fabric of the game.

Admission is free and doors open at 5 p.m.
