Martha Janke

September 29, 1920 – July 24, 2017

Martha Janke, 96, passed away July 24, 2017 in her home, Odessa, Wash. Martha was born on Sept. 29, 1920 in Marsh, Mont. to Gotthilf and Johanna Speck. She moved to Odessa, Wash. at the age of 14 to live with her aunt and uncle Jacob and Lydia Speck. She later met Daniel Janke and the two got married in 1939.

She is survived by three daughters LaVern Strawn, Ellen (and Jerry) Schafer and JoAnn Hardt; six grandchildren Kurt Strawn, Kelley (Alejanara) Strawn, Marlon (Melissa) Schafer, Dana Schafer Jason (Kim) Hardt and Jesse (Jennifer) Hardt; 10 great- grandchildren Ian, Owen, Andrew, Sam, Molly, Stefanie, Amanda, Logan, Cameron and Hayden and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Daniel in 1987 and three brothers and two sisters. She was a member of Central Washington Grain Growers and Krupp Union Grain Growers, Marlin Presbyterian Church and Ladies Aid. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, sewing, crocheting and crafts.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Heritage Church, Odessa, Wash. with Pastor Jon Hayashi officiating.
