Henry A. Beckemeier

January 5, 1934 – July 30, 2017

It is with great sadness that the family of Henry A. Beckemeier announces his passing on Sunday July 30, 2017, at the age of 83. Henry was born Jan. 5, 1934 in Norborne, Mo.

After graduating from Quincy High School he continued his education at Central Washington University and graduated with a degree in economics. He worked overseas for numerous years but his real love was working with wood. Although he built several houses, he was a finish carpenter by trade and many called him a master carpenter. People marveled at how he could take uneven and out-of-square structures and make the trim fit smoothly. He mused about making furniture after he lost the sight in one eye and his hands shook.

He and Lana traveled quite a bit in the last few years. They visited all 50 states and numerous foreign countries.

After buying a book on pie making from the Mineral Springs Café on Blewett Pass, he started making pies. He made all kinds of pies and every family, church or friend gathering served at least one of Henry’s pies. I often wondered why he made so many pies for our family gatherings but finally realized it was because he was making each person’s favorite. That was Henry. He treated people special without any fanfare or expecting any acknowledgment. He was a nice and caring man who touched many hearts.

Henry will be forever remembered by his wife and best friend Lana and their precious children Lauri and Heather; grandchildren JD, Kellen, Guess, Austin and Scout; sister Norma; nieces Christine, Jody and Billie and nephew Warren. Henry will also be fondly remembered by great-grandchildren, great-nieces and -nephews and extended family and dear friends. Henry was predeceased by his parents, brother Harold Beckemeier and nephew Stewart Beckemeier. 

A celebration of Henry’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19 at the Christian Church in Mansfield, Wash.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Lake Chelan Bach Fest. Henry’s love for classical music, particularly piano, is a family tradition.
