Ms. Edris Renee Herodes died peacefully in the hospital on Aug. 1, 2017 in Moses Lake, Wash. at the age of 70 after a battle with esophageal cancer and its complications.

Edris was born on Aug. 30, 1946 in The Dalles, Ore. She married Gene Benson in May of 1965, with whom she had her three children. Edris moved to Tenino, Wash. in 1977, where she raised her children and married the love of her life, Ronald Herodes, in 1991. She graduated from Evergreen State College in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After moving to Moses Lake, Edris began working for DSHS as a social worker. Her family remembers her as the most kind, radiant and loving woman who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

Edris was an amazing gardener who received her Master Gardner certification through Washington State University in the fall of 2014. She was passionate about gardening and spending time with her family. She was an active and dedicated member of the community, especially the Master Gardeners program. She often volunteered at their greenhouse and other events.

A celebration of life is scheduled for Aug. 12 from 2 to 6 p.m. at 4311 Moon Dr. NE in Moses Lake. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Edris’ life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Master Gardeners Foundation at 1525 E. Wheeler Rd., Moses Lake, WA 98837.
