Wilson Creek man dies in collision

WILSON CREEK — A Wilson Creek who died in a collision on Saturday was reportedly not wearing a seat belt when he crashed his vehicle.

The family of 47-year-old Thomas Veenstra, of Wilson Creek, told deputies about 8 p.m. that Veenstra had gone for a drive in a 2016 Dodge Challenger earlier in the day, but didn’t return home. Deputies searched the area and later found where Veenstra had apparently crashed on Road Q Northeast, south of Road 25 Northeast, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

Veenstra, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene of the collision.

Deputies with the GCSO’s Motor Traffic Unit believe Veenstra was traveling at high speeds when he lost control of the car.
