| August 1, 2017 3:00 AM

PASCO — A Soap Lake man was injured in a two-vehicle collision north of Pasco late Friday night.

About 10:35 p.m. Benjamin Caballero, 18, of Moses Lake, was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry west on state Route 17, about 25 miles north of Pasco, behind a 1988 Ford Tempo driven by Chanel Korando, 54, of Moses Lake, when Korando slowed down for traffic. Caballero ended up striking the rear of the Tempo, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Caballero’s passenger, Samuel Thomas Zavala, 20, of Soap Lake, was the only person injured in the collision. He was transported to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland for treatment. Both vehicles were totaled and impounded.

Speed was determined to be the cause of the collision and Caballero was cited for second-degree negligent driving, according to the patrol.
