Horse in road causes wreck near Othello

OTHELLO — A horse in the road reportedly caused an early Monday morning collision near Othello.

About 4:35 p.m. Mario Mendoza, 36, of Othello, was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition east on state Route 26, near Othello, when a horse entered the roadway. The Expedition reportedly struck the horse and both the vehicle and animal came to a rest blocking the eastbound SR-26 lanes, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Mendoza was injured in the collision and transported to Othello Community Hospital by ambulance for treatment. The Expedition sustained reportable damages and was impounded. There were no citations issued in connection with the collision.
