Othello track team turns in strong performance

WAPATO — Ephrata is in a class by itself in both the boys and girls divisions, but the young Othello Huskies stepped up and made a little noise of their own April 13 at the CWAC track and field meet at Wapato.
Othello's Isaiah Perez defeated a quality discus field with a personal best throw of 141 feet, 6 inches. Second-year javelin thrower Crystal Arreola beat her nearest competitor by 10 feet, winning with a mark of 99-7 to lead the Huskie girls.
Boys
The Huskie boys excelled in the field events. Perez let ‘er fly to win the discus. Brayan Garza set a personal best in the high jump, clearing 5-8 to place second and Easton Roylance was third in the long jump with a mark of 16-1.
On the track, Ulises Neponuceno had a solid day, finishing third in the 100 meters in 12.90 seconds behind teammate Brayan Garza, who placed second (12.75). Neponuceno was third in both the 200 (23.94) and 400 meters (54.96).
Anthony Veliz competed with a solid 800-meter field, placing third (2:16.0). Jesus Gonzales was fourth in the 200 (24.44) and freshman David Maldonado placed fifth in the 1600 (5:17.50).
The Huskie 4x400 relay (Bridger Lawson, Carter Freeman, David Maldonado, Easton Roylance) placed second with a time of 3:45.84.
Girls
Arreola paved the way for the young Huskie girls team with the big throw in the javelin. Samantha Valenciano placed second in the discus (84-0) and teammate Giselle Barragan was second in the pole vault (7-6).
On the track, Lori Gomez ran a personal best 18.25 to finish second in the 100-hurdles and Kylie Ashton was third in the 100 meters (14.91)
The girls 4x200 relay (Luciana Roa, Elizabeth Madrid, Allison Garza, Maria Silva) finished second with a time of 1:55.82
K Valley Rally at Kittitas
Freshman Leslie Rodriguez defeated the field in the 800 meters with a time of 3:00.97. Kylie Ashton ran a personal best 14.14 to place third in the 100 meters. Lori Gomez won the 100-hurdles in 18.59 and was third (1:14.71) in the 400 meters. Ginselle Barragan won the pole vault, clearing 7-feet. The girls 4x400 relay defeated the field in 4:56.53. The team consisted of Kylie Ashton, Genecis Rodriguez, Lori Gomez and Kayla Guzman.
In the boys meet, David Maldonado finished second (5:13.29) in the 1600. Jesus Gonzalez was third (25.48) in the boys 200.
