Wahluke Wariors golf season still on hold

MATTAWA — For one reason or another — be it the weather or spring break — the Wahluke High School golf season has been on hold — sort of. The Warriors have not yet played in SCAC competition.

Wahluke had its non-league invitational in March. The team also hosted a scramble, which is only for fun.

But the Warriors haven’t been wasting time. Coach Tiffany Hedman has been hard at work developing her girls team.

Thirteen golfers on the roster will compete against each other each on a weekly basis. The top six players compete in prep matches.

“We had competition from Monday through Thursday last week,” Hedman said. “The Top 6 for this week, in order of team rank is Alex Bangs, Esmeralda Lagunas, Itzel Guerrero, Carmen Aguilar, Athena Woodridge and Sandra Rivera.”

This the biggest team Hedman has had, boys or girls. She said she is enjoying her time with the girls team as Hedman sees rapid improvement each week. She is also excited by the community support her girls are receiving.

The boys team has only four players. So there is no competition for playing slots.

Wahluke got back into action Monday with a match at Warden, but the results were not made available by time of press. The golf teams are back on the links at Cle Elum today.
