Othello sports roundup Huskie boys set new school scoring record with win at CWAC tournament
GRANDVIEW — Huskie freshman Patrick Azevedo had the putter going on Tuesday, shooting a 4-over-par 76 to lead the Othello boys golf team to its best team score in the past four years at the CWAC league match at Blackrock Creek Golf Course in Grandview.
The Huskies won the competition with a score of 340 for a new team record.
“We did awesome, that’s a team low and a team record for us,” Othello coach Brian Lumsden said. “We had some new faces in our lineup, which is part of our depth. The way we played today, this should be our lineup here on out.”
Ben Garza shot 82. Isaiah Garza came in with 85, Sam Azevedo carded 97 and Jon Ozuna finished with at 109.
GIRLS
Daisy Valdez shot a 102 to finish with the Othello girls low score at the CWAC league match at the Othello Golf Club. Edith Reyes finished with 131, Taylor Cass came in at 150. Margarita Solorio carded 157 and Alyson Shade 156.
TENNIS
QUINCY — Othello’s Palani Barragan went toe-to-toe with Sam Ronish to win the No. 2 singles match 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Josh Valdez and Sterling Roylance won at No. 2 doubles and the No. 3 team of Tyler Wagner and Asai Villarreal came through to help the Huskie boys (7-1, 3-0 CWAC) beat Quincy 3-2 and remain unbeaten in the Central Washington Athletic Conference.
In the girls match, Daishawn Roylance and Macy Hampton won the No. 2 doubles match in straight sets, as did Janae Freeman and Jenny Walker at No. 3 doubles. No. 1 singles player Zoee Roylance took a close one against Caitlin Wind, 6-4, 6-3; to help the Huskie girls (7-1, 3-0) remain unbeaten in CWAC with a 3-2 win.
Othello vs. Prosser
The Othello girls defeated Prosser 4-1 to improve in the CWAC standings, winning all three doubles matches in straight sets.
In boys action, the Othello boys improved with a 5-0 victory. Singles players Levi Garza and Palani Barragan both won three-set matches to lead the Huskies.
BASEBALL
The Huskies (9-5, 7-5) swept Wapato in a CWAC doubleheader, 23-1 and 5-4. Jon Garza was the winning pitcher in the first game, striking out eight and allowing just two hits.
AJ Pruneda went 3-for-3. Alfredo Carreno doubled twice.
The Huskies had to slug their way off the ropes to win the second game, coming from 4-2 down in the seventh inning. They scored three runs in the seventh to stay in fifth place in the CWAC and remain in the playoff hunt.
