Prep roundup: Othello tennis takes non-league tilt with Connell

OTHELLO — Othello tennis took a break from CWAC play for a tilt with Connell.

The girls won in a 5-0 sweep, winning the first four matches in straight sets and picking up a forfeit in No. 3 doubles. The boys split their singles matches due to a forfeit and cruised to a 4-1 victory.

Boys soccer

Ephrata 3, Selah 1

EPHRATA — Ephrata scored three second-half goals to rally from a halftime deficit and beat Selah 3-1.

The Vikings led 1-0 at halftime.

“Sometimes I think they just need that pep talk that gets them going,” head coach Ivan Garay said.

Arbey Guerrero evened the game in the 45th minute. Luis Rodriguez and Jirvin Espinoza scored a goal each with less than 10 minutes to play.

The win nailed down a spot in the district playoffs for the Tigers (5-3, 8-5-1).


Warden 3, Kiona-Benton 1

WARDEN — Warden picked up a 3-1 win against last-place Kiona-Benton.

Warden 3-4, 4-7) is in a battle with College Place for the final district playoff berth with four games left.


Track and field

Moses Lake track beats Sunnyside at first CBBN meet

YAKIMA — Moses Lake track and field was able to beat Sunnyside at the first Columbia Basin Big Nine meet in Yakima.

The Chiefs fell to Eisenhower and West Valley in the boys' and girls' competition.

Draven Nevarez was first in javelin with a throw of 171 feet, 9 inches.

Midori Raymond won the 100 meter hurdles, Elly Johnson won the discus and Kellie Hellewell won the shot put and javelin.

Ephrata boys pick up two wins

GRANDVIEW — Ephrata boys track and field outlasted Grandview and East Valley for two league wins.

The girls split, beating Grandview and losing closely to East Valley.

Sprinter Anthony Evans won the 200 and 400 meters; distance runner Ethan Green finished first in the 1600 and 3200 meters.

In the girls' competition, Mya Spencer was first in the 200 and 400. McCall DeChenne won the 100 and 300 hurdles.

Othello edges Quincy at CWAC meet

ELLENSBURG — In a meet dominated by Ellensburg, Othello track and field was able to edge out Quincy.

In the boys' competition, the Huskies beat the Jacks 79-65. The Othello girls beat Quincy 86-62.

Othello's Lori Gomez won the 100 hurdles in 18.45 seconds, a personal record.
