Columbia Basin roundup: Big Bend sweeps Blue Mountain

PENDLETON, Ore. — Big Bend received a pair of solid outings from its starters and swept Blue Mountain 6-1 and 2-1.

The two wins helped Big Bend (6-8, 18-10) creep back into the chase for the final playoff spot. The Vikings sit in sixth place, trailing Treasure Valley by two games for the last berth.

Parker Stohr ate up five innings in the first game, allowing four hits and one run.

A four-run third inning helped Big Bend build a healthy lead early. Josh Kallstrom of Ephrata hit a two-run double.

In Game 2, Jake Prewitt pitched five scoreless innings.

The Vikings tacked on one run each in the first and third inning.

Auggie Francis tripled in the first and scored on a fielder's choice. Francis hit an RBI double in the third inning.

Big Bend hits the road for a doubleheader against Yakima Valley on Saturday.

Lake Stevens wins tight team race at Gamble Sands

BREWSTER — It took a tiebreaker to decide the winner at Gamble Sands

Lake Stevens and Shadle Park both shot 317, however, No. 5 golfer Colton Hopkins helped the Vikings earn the tiebreaker with a score of 98; Shadle Park's No. 5 Connor Gearing shot 109.

Stanwood (318) missed the team title by one stroke.

Othello (338), Ephrata (348) and Quincy (367) were all in the middle of the pack. Othello's Patrick Azevedo led his team with a 77.

Othello 20-3, East Valley 3-6

YAKIMA — Othello settled for a split with East Valley, winning the first game 2-3 before losing the second 6-3.

The split kept Othello (7-3, 7-3) entrenched in third place in the CWAC.

The Huskies host undefeated Ellensburg on Saturday.
