Columbia Basin roundup: Hunter Boyd joins Wenatchee AppleSox

WENATCHEE — Moses Lake native Hunter Boyd will have an opportunity to play summer ball with the Wenatchee AppleSox, the team said in a statement on Monday.
Boyd, a Moses Lake High School graduate and current Yakima Valley pitcher, is one of six additions to the AppleSox roster.
Boyd has been a winner on every level. He helped Moses Lake reach the 4A state playoffs in 2014 and 2015, was a member of a Columbia Basin River Dogs team that won a Babe Ruth Senior World Series in 2015 and won an NWAC championship with Yakima Valley in 2016.
“I'm thrilled to have Hunter Boyd,” AppleSox head coach Kyle Krustangel said in a statement. “He is a top-notch guy who is currently uncommitted for next year, and has seven offers from great schools. He is a guy that will work hard, and is excited to pitch close to Moses Lake. He's a team leader at YVCC and was a major reason we won an NWAC Championship last season.”
Boyd started seven games for the Yaks in 2016, picking up three wins.

Othello third at CWAC league match
OTHELLO — Othello could not keep up with Selah and East Valley, finished third at its home CWAC match.
Selah carded 334, East Valley a 345 and Othello a 375.
Dylan Apodaca of Selah took first with an even par 70. Apodaca birded three holes over the back nine.
Patrick Azevedo led Othello with a 77. Azevedo eagled hole No. 5, a par-four. Ben Garza shot an 89 and also eagled hole No. 6.
Isaiah Garza (103), Sam Azevedo (112), Jon Ozuna (106) and Guillen Young (145) rounded out the Huskies' lineup.

Moses Lake wins CBBN pod
MALAGA — After the first Columbia Basin Big Nine pod in late March, Moses Lake head coach Lonny Brown surmised it was the first time his team had took second in a while.
Well, a new milestone was set Monday when Moses Lake stunned the field to win the second CBBN pod at Three Lakes Golf Club. Charlie Sanislo shot a career-low 91 to place third overall and Moses Lake had a low team score of 393 to edge Wenatchee by four strokes.
“We've shown some decent consistency,” Brown said. “The girls are playing well and they're all improving.”
The Chiefs had three golfers in the top seven. Payton Erdmann (96) and Courtney Sanislo (97) joined Charlie Sanislo in the 90s. However, the key was Jaimyn Law shaving crucial strokes to card a 109 and drop Moses Lake's team score below 400.
